Work out what you actually keep from an Amazon.in sale after the referral fee, closing fee and shipping.

Your figures

Marketplace commission usually depends on the category. Leave it blank to use the rate that applies to everything.

Who ships the order

Marketplaces charge differently depending on who handles the parcel.

Where the fees come from

Your own fee statement is always more accurate than a published rate, because rates vary by account.

The percentage your seller account is actually charged.

Closing, collection or fixed fees, as one figure.

What the customer pays, after any discount.

What one unit costs you, landed in your warehouse.

The greater of the actual and volumetric weight - the volumetric weight calculator works that out.

Leave at 1 to work per unit.

Your own costs

Only what comes out of your pocket, not what the marketplace charges.

Box, filler, tape and labels for one order.

Returns, advertising, storage - anything else you want counted per unit.

About this calculator

The price on the listing is not what reaches your bank. Amazon India deducts a referral fee based on the category, a closing fee on the order, and either a shipping charge if you dispatch it yourself or a fulfilment fee if Amazon does before paying out, and the difference between the two figures is where a margin quietly disappears.

This calculator itemises every deduction, shows what lands in the payout, and then takes off what the product cost you to arrive at the profit.

How to use this calculator

  1. Pick the product category. Commission usually depends on it.
  2. Say who ships the order, because the charge differs.
  3. Choose whether to use the rates configured on this site or enter the fees from your own seller account. Your own figures are more accurate.
  4. Enter the selling price, what the product costs you, and anything you pay for shipping or packaging.
  5. Read the breakdown from the selling price down to the net profit.

The formula

Every deduction comes off the selling price in turn:

Seller earnings = Selling price - marketplace fees - your shipping - packaging - other costs
Net profit = Seller earnings - product cost

Margin and markup are two different questions and this calculator answers both:

Margin = Net profit / Selling price x 100
Markup = Net profit / Product cost  x 100

A 100% markup is a 50% margin. Sellers are usually quoted one and think of the other, which is why both are shown rather than a single "profit percentage".

SymbolMeaningUnit
Selling price What the customer pays, after discount Rs
Product cost What one unit costs you, landed Rs
Fees Everything the marketplace deducts Rs
Earnings What reaches you before the cost of goods Rs

Worked example

Take a listing at 1,499 on a product that costs you 850, with packaging at 15 and a fee of 15% plus 40 entered by hand:

Selling price 1,499.00
Marketplace fee -264.85 (15% of 1,499, plus 40)
Packaging -15.00
Seller earnings 1,219.15
Product cost -850.00
Net profit 369.15 (24.6% margin, 43.4% markup)

Run it with your own numbers: the figures above are an illustration of the arithmetic, not a claim about what Amazon India charges.

Notes and limits

This site does not publish Amazon India fee rates. Marketplace pricing changes without notice, differs by seller account, category and period, and is frequently misreported. Rather than quote a rate we cannot stand behind, the calculator uses whatever an administrator has configured here - and if nothing has been configured, it says so and stops.

The reliable way to use this tool is to take the fee from your own seller fee statement and enter it under "Enter fees myself". That figure is right for your account, which no published rate can be.

  • Returns, RTO and advertising are not included unless you add them under other costs.
  • GST handling is simplified here; the GST profit calculator deals with it properly.
  • Payment cycles and settlement timing are not modelled.

What this calculation assumes

  • Fees come from the rates configured on this site, or from the figures you entered.
  • One order of the quantity given; returns and cancellations are not modelled.
  • Shipping and packaging are what you pay, separate from anything the marketplace charges.

Frequently asked questions

Why does this calculator not already know the Amazon India fees?

Because we would have to keep them right, and marketplace fee schedules change without notice and vary by seller account, category and period. A wrong rate presented confidently is worse than no rate: somebody would price a product against it. The calculator uses rates an administrator has entered and dated, or the fees you enter yourself.

What is the difference between seller earnings and net profit?

Seller earnings is what reaches you after the marketplace and your shipping costs - roughly what appears in the payout. Net profit is that figure less what the product cost you, which is the number that tells you whether the sale was worth making.

Should I use margin or markup?

Margin, when you are asking what share of the sale you keep. Markup, when you are setting a price up from a cost. They are not interchangeable: a 50% margin is a 100% markup, and confusing the two is the most common way a seller prices a product too low.

Does this include GST?

Only in outline. If GST matters to your pricing - and it usually does - use the GST profit calculator, which separates the tax you collect from your revenue and handles input credit on your purchases.
